Amtico ‘makes headlines’ at former newspaper HQ

Amtico was a natural choice for the floors at The Headline in Leeds – a stunning 18-storey build-to-rent development by Grainger plc with architects The Harris Partnership. Situated on the old Yorkshire Post site, the property comprises 242 homes, as well as amenity and recreational spaces, designed by leading design practice 74.

All 242 one- and two-bedroomed apartments, plus the amenity areas on the 11th and ground floor at The Headline, feature LVT flooring from Amtico’s premium Signature collection.

In the amenity areas, the designers at 74 took subtle design clues from the site’s former life as a newspaper HQ to create a series of sophisticated spaces where residents can relax, work and enjoy themselves. Amtico Signature floors in Cornish Oak were chosen throughout to match the oak feature joinery, achieving a natural, refined and integrated feel. Laid in Basket Weave, the LVT flooring has been edged with a brass strip to provide a historical nod toward the site’s previous industrial heritage.

To add visual contrast and zoning to the Sky Lounge amenity area on the 11th floor, bold Signature colours have been integrated into the Basket Weave laying pattern.  Chosen to complement the blues and greens used for the furnishings across the different levels, the injection of colour combined with Cornish Oak also creates an eye-catching and easy-to-use floor layout for residents.

Commenting on The Headline’s floors, Bianca Yousef, Director at 74 Architects Ltd, said: “Amtico offers such a wide variety of colours, enabling us to use it as an additional design tool to create features with interesting patterns. We use Amtico because of the reassurance factor; for 74, Amtico is a trusted supplier we have used many times – and one we know our clients also love.” Elsewhere in the development, the brief for the 242 one- and two-bedroomed apartments focused on creating a homely, welcoming feel for residents and ensuring a quiet living space. Amtico Signature LVT in Worn Oak and York Oak was chosen for the floors to provide quality, durability and reliability in areas of heavy footfall. The neutral wood tones and calming colours make them a perfect choice for residents, while the LVT is easy to clean and maintain.

The LVT planks were also teamed with Amtico’s Acoustic backing layer, which dampens noise transference between floors by up to 19dB as well as provides an extra level of comfort underfoot for residents. The flooring works to bring all the elements together in the meticulously designed apartments and create a harmonious living space.
