Major £1.3m revamp of Nantwich Leisure Centre begins

Leading energy, services and regeneration specialist, ENGIE, is pleased to have recently started work at Nantwich Leisure Centre, having been awarded a £1.3m contract for the regeneration of the site by Cheshire East Council.

The leisure facility is managed and operated by Everybody Sports and Recreation (ESAR), who are leading on delivering a multi-million pound joint investment scheme in partnership with Cheshire East Council into leisure facilities across Cheshire East. ESAR has been involved in a collaborative design process along with ENGIE and other stakeholders prior to construction work, which commenced in May 2021.

The development will include a number of different elements, including the provision and extension of the gym area, the provision of a two-storey extension creating a new entrance to the leisure centre, refurbishment of the redundant outdoor changing area and construction of a purpose-built spin studio.

This scheme will also include the integration of several innovative SMART building and green energy generation technologies, such as photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, which are being incorporated as a result of Cheshire East Council being allocated Public Sector Decarbonisation Funding, a scheme that provides grants to local authorities for energy efficiency measures in public sector buildings. The regeneration and modernisation of the site will allow the leisure centre to offer a complete range of services to the local community, while contributing to the overall goal of carbon neutrality.

Alyson Seddon, Head of Education and Public Buildings at ENGIE UK & Ireland, said: “We’re delighted to begin work on what is an excellent project, especially for the local community in Nantwich. We’ve developed a strong relationship with Cheshire East Council over many years, and we’re looking forward to delivering this scheme on their behalf.

“ENGIE offers a unique mixture of client solutions and we’re pleased to be able to help the Council to revamp a community asset, whilst also supporting them to reduce their carbon footprint.”

Thomas Barton, Executive Director at Everybody Sport and Recreation, said: “Everybody is delighted to be working with Cheshire East Council and ENGIE to ensure people in Nantwich are able to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, in a leisure venue that suits the needs of our community. The site is much-loved by its members and attracts thousands of visitors a year for the outdoor pool. This investment is key to be able to welcome even more people from Nantwich to enjoy the services we have on offer and to stay fit and healthy.”
